Book digitization for AI
DirectionPress helps rights holders and AI teams convert authorized books and document collections into accurate text, useful hierarchy, dependable metadata, and agreed delivery formats.
Beyond a scan
Scanning creates page images. OCR creates machine-readable text. Neither step, by itself, explains how chapters, headings, tables, captions, footnotes, indexes, illustrations, and page references relate to one another.
DirectionPress combines book production knowledge with structured information work. The result is a dataset that remains connected to the source and is easier to inspect, evaluate, and use.
From shelf to structured data
Each project begins with a sample. Capture method, quality targets, output formats, retention, and acceptance criteria are agreed before full production.
Confirm the collection, ownership, permissions, and permitted use.
Test representative pages, layouts, type, tables, and image content.
Create consistent page images with an agreed method and file standard.
Run OCR, normalize text, and preserve page-level traceability.
Identify hierarchy, components, metadata, and relationships.
Review quality, package outputs, and deliver manifests and checksums.
Possible project outputs
The final specification is agreed after sample conversion. Projects can combine source images, readable documents, structured text, and machine-oriented formats.
Consistent archival or production images tied to source order and identifiers.
OCR output reviewed and normalized to the accuracy level agreed for the collection.
PDF, PDF/A, EPUB, or another agreed format for people who need to review the material.
XML, JSON, tabular, or other agreed representations of hierarchy and components.
Book, edition, page, section, image, and collection fields appropriate to the use case.
Manifests, checksums, quality notes, exceptions, and acceptance records.
Responsible use
DirectionPress works with materials the client owns or is authorized to digitize and use. The permitted training, evaluation, retrieval, research, or internal use is documented before production begins.
The client defines the authorized use and confirms the necessary rights.
DirectionPress does not claim ownership of client books, scans, text, or datasets.
Storage, access, transfer, return, and deletion expectations are documented for the project.
Samples and quality criteria provide a shared basis for review and delivery.
